The pH value of your skin

INTRODUCTION

The pH of your skin is the most important indicator to determine if you have healthy skin. The pH of the skin indicates how acidic or alkaline it is. But what is pH and why is it so important?
pH stands for potential hydrogen and is used to describe the acid-base ratio. This ratio ranges from 0 to 14, with 0 being the most acidic and 14 being the most alkaline. You can measure the pH of your skin with a pH strip. You can measure basically anything pH-wise as long as it contains some kind of liquid.

ACID MANTLE

The combination of sebum and sweat forms a film on the stratum corneum that is known as a
known as the acid mantle. It is both the physical and chemical barrier that provides crucial protection.
Form of protection. It serves as the skin’s first defence mechanism. It is a fact that our
skin is slightly acidic. This has not only been proven by research, but has also been known for
been known for about a hundred years. Modern measuring methods show an average pH value of 5.5
(not 7, which has been confused by many). This is due to the body’s natural acids, for example.
Example.
The importance of acidic properties for the skin surface is also evident from the term “acid mantle”. It fends off harmful microorganisms such as negative environmental influences and protects the skin from infections, irritations, allergies and dehydration. In addition, an intact protective acid mantle also has a natural deodorising effect; the bacterial decomposition of sweat components, which is responsible for the development of body odour, is kept low. More…

PH IN SKINCARE

In a recent study conducted by students at Erasmus University in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
Netherlands, showed that almost 96% of skin care products are not pH-balanced
and almost 85% of these products compromise the acid mantle in the short and long term. This can
throw your skin out of its pH balance. When your skin’s pH is out of balance, it is
more susceptible to skin infections, which can lead to breakouts.

SO WHY NOT MAKE YOUR PRODUCTS PH BALANCED?

It’s not “sexy” to talk about skin pH. Nor is it a topic that is often discussed.
discussed. Skin care companies and manufacturers do care about your skin, but it’s
easier for them to make a product that is in demand. It is a fact that pH balanced
skin care products are currently not in much demand in Europe, China and the
USA (APRIL 25, 2017).
We sincerely hope that you have learnt from this blog and may even have received the golden advice when it comes to buying skincare or tackling skin problems.

INTRODUCTION

Cucumis Sativus Fruit Extract has anti-inflammatory properties, including for (sun) burns. Cucumis Sativus Fruit Extract can repair dry and damaged skin and gives it a softer and smoother appearance. Another advantage is that the pH value is identical to that of human skin.

WHAT IS CUCUMIS SATIVUS?

Cucumis Sativus is the botanical name of a plant species from the cucumber family.

The best known and most eaten vegetable from the cucumber family is the salad cucumber. Botanically speaking, CUCUMBERs are actually fruits. In fact, they belong to the flowering plants that contain seeds and are the means by which these plants spread these seeds.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF THE CUCUMBER IN SKIN CARE?

Many studies have shown that the fruit extract of Cucumis Sativus contains many powerful antioxidants and anti-inflammatory nutrients. The main benefits of CUCUMBER in skin care are:

– Vitamin K, which improves skin elasticity (research, Maastricht University).

– Repairs dry and damaged skin

– pH value is identical to that of human skin

– Moisturises the skin and gives it a soft and smooth appearance

WHY DID WE USE CUCUMBER IN A FACE MASK?

Cucumber (Cucumis Sativus) fruit extract is the perfect ingredient to add the finishing touch to a pH-balanced skincare product. It’s quite a challenge to make a pH-balanced face mask. Especially if you don’t use harsh chemicals. We mainly use this fruit extract to achieve the perfect pH level for our face mask.

It is the combination with other ingredients that makes Cucumis Sativus so important in our face mask. Compare it to ice cubes in freshly made lemonade. It is the finishing touch to a perfect glass of lemonade.

MOROCCAN LAVA CLAY

INTRODUCTION

Moroccan lava clay – also known as rhassoul clay or ghassoul clay – is mined in the Atlas Mountains of eastern Morocco. It is an exceptional mineral-enriched clay that helps treat dehydrated, sensitive skin and enlarged pores. It also helps to build and strengthen the skin’s elasticity.

HISTORY OF MOROCCAN LAVA CLAY

Unlike conventional soaps and shampoos, Moroccan lava clay contains no artificial emulsifiers, fragrances or preservatives. The advantages of this clay compared to synthetic products are that it only removes dirt. Synthetic soaps, on the other hand, not only remove the dirt but also most of the skin’s natural moisture. Synthetic soaps leave the skin unprotected and the skin is stimulated to produce even more oil. Your skin thus becomes unbalanced. Research has shown that in the US, 82% of the population suffers from an unbalanced skin pH due to synthetic soaps.

Moroccan lava clay cleanses in a completely different way. Due to its unique composition, this clay has a high cleansing power and electrostatic strength. It binds the excess skin oils and dirt particles. These are then washed off with water, leaving the skin’s natural protective layer intact.

ADVANTAGES OF MOROCCAN LAVA CLAY

– Cleanses gently and thoroughly and is non-irritating

– Improves circulation

– Suitable for all skin and hair types

– Completely environmentally friendly, without chemical additives, emulsifiers, fragrances or preservatives

100% natural

– Endlessly durable

– Great alternative for people who want to avoid soap or have skin allergies

– Ideal for small wounds

Mudmasky uses light brown premium Moroccan lava clay, which is the mildest of all clays. It is ideal for those with sensitive, dry and/or dehydrated skin as it maintains the natural moisture in the skin. The amazing properties of Premium Light Brown Moroccan Lava Clay help to rebuild, moisturise and nourish the skin.

WHY LIMES ARE GOOD FOR YOUR SKIN

INTRODUCTION

Limes are good for your skin. The citrus fruit is not only refreshing in the kitchen and in cocktails, it also works wonders for the skin.

Limes are rich in nutrients and substances such as citric acid, calcium, magnesium, potassium, vitamin C and flavonoids. They have a cleansing and detoxifying effect on the body systems. Therefore, limes are not only good for the skin, but for overall health.

VITAMIN C IN LIMES

The most notable substance that limes contain is vitamin C. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that is essential for eliminating free radicals that can damage healthy cells throughout the body. Free radicals are the biggest threat to our skin as they damage cells and their membranes. Vitamin C is the only antioxidant that can also increase collagen synthesis. Collagen is responsible for the skin’s firmness and elasticity, and as we age, collagen production decreases, causing wrinkles. In addition, the vitamin C found in lime juice is known to kill certain strains of bacteria that can cause acne.

A healthy way to consume more lime juice is to add some to a glass of water every day. This is not only healthy, but can also be a nice change of pace. But be careful: if you drink lime juice every day, your teeth won’t like it so much. It can damage the enamel layer of your teeth, so it’s worth buying a stainless steel straw to prevent tooth decay.

OTHER USES FOR LIMES

– Acne and blackheads

– You can use the antibacterial and antifungal properties of limes as a natural alternative for acne and blackheads. Cut a lime and rub the juice on your face. You can also smear honey on it before tackling the black spots. Leave everything on for 3 to 5 minutes and wash your face thoroughly with cold water.

– Spots and blemishes

– Acne scars, dark spots and blemishes are an uphill battle. The acid in lime juice will gradually soothe your skin. Be careful with open scars and wounds. Lime can feel a little stinging.

– Oily skin

– If you suffer from oily skin, lime juice can also help. Squeeze the lime juice in a bowl and add 50% more water. Soak cotton wool with the mixture and apply it to the affected areas. Do this no more than three times a week.

IMPORTANT NOTE

– Never use lime juice if you are going to be exposed to the sun. This may cause a change in skin tone.

– Limes should not be left on the skin for more than a few minutes. This is because of the low pH value.

– Limes can temporarily change the skin.

What is organic skin care?

THE HYPE

Since 2015, the number of consumers buying organic food has increased. You can say that it is a kind of hype. This one will probably stay with us for a long time, maybe even forever. Fortunately for us, when we buy organic food, the standards of the USDA’s National Organic Programme define exactly how organic food is grown, raised and processed, and what kind of materials and under what circumstances this is all allowed in order for it to be considered organic.
When you buy organic apples, you can be sure that the farmer has not used pesticides and antibiotics on your apples. The farmer only uses USDA approved materials.

Unfortunately, this is not the case with skin care products. The term “organic” is used by many skin care companies, but the meaning of this term is rather vague. Unlike food, consumers in the skin care industry are not protected when the term “organic” is (co)used on a product.
